Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a type of therapy used most often in the treatment of trauma. It goes beyond traditional “talk therapy,” and involves the stimulation of other areas of the brain to allow for painful or traumatic memories or associations to be reprocessed and reintegrated into one’s memory. EMDR therapists often use moving lights, sounds, or tactile aids in session. It’s a hard treatment to explain in just a few words — if you’re interested in learning more, I would highly recommend checking out “Getting Past Your Past,” a book by the founder of the therapy, Francine Shapiro.

I have completed intensive training in order to practice EMDR, and am currently working towards becoming fully certified through EMDRIA. EMDR sessions are often longer than the traditional 50-minute therapy session. If you think EMDR might be right for you, make sure to mention it when you contact me, and we will talk about what treatment would look like.
